With 10 years experience in tort litigation and with a diversified background which includes marine construction, Tim Schweitzer, partner with the law firm of Hofmann & Schweitzer, has unique insight into the needs of his clients. Tim specializes in personal injury matters, with special emphasis on maritime(Jones Act and Longshore Harbor Workers), construction worker tort claims and railroad (F.E.L.A.) claims. He has successfully resolved hundreds of personal injury suits through settlement and by jury verdict.

Tim is a father of five children who put himself through law school at night while working by day as a union dockbuilder in such capacities as a journeyman, a shop steward and also as foreman. In fact, Tim still is an active member of the Dockbuilders Local Union No. 1456. Such invaluable experience provides Tim with a special knowledge of the ins and outs of construction sites and an intimate understanding of construction workers. Tim also is a lifelong recreational boater, served with the U.S. Coast Guard and is an avid fisherman.

Tim's experience as a marine construction worker, mariner and father provides him with a thorough understanding of the impact that devastating injuries have on his clients and their families. What Tim enjoys most about his practice are the relationships he has with his clients and their families, meeting witnesses and inspecting the accident sites. He always puts the needs of his client's first and is readily available to spend the time counseling them so that they understand the legal process and are adequately prepared to make informed decisions. His perseverance, hard work and dedication to his client's needs have earned him the respect of his clients, his peers and his adversaries.

Besides personal injury matters, Tim has handled cases involving seaman's wage claims, maintenance and cure, premises liability, asbestos exposure, homeowner liability, motor vehicle accidents, marine collisions and has also been involved in may legal decisions of interest, including:

    Calcaterra v. City of New York, 45 A.D.3d 270 (1st Dept. 2007)
    Rivera v. Horizon Offshore Contrs., Inc., 2005 U.S. Dist. LEXIS (S.D.N.Y. Nov. 10., 2005).
