The majority of crane accident injuries and fatalities are caused by a few common reasons. Understanding the common causes of crane accidentsis important to understanding how to prevent such accidents and how to prevent workers and their families from suffering.
Last May, the Center for Construction Research and Training described several things that can be done to prevent crane related accidents.* Specifically, it was suggested that:
- Crane operators be certified. New York City, other major cities and approximately 18 states currently require crane operators to be certified. New York and New Jersey both require crane operator certification.
- Sufficient training for all crane operators and other crane personnel.
- Routine crane inspections by qualified crane inspectors.
- Additional OSHA involvement.
Often, preventing crane accidents comes down to proper safety precautions being taken and to inspectors and workers using reasonable care in their work.
If you have been injured or if you have lost a loved one in a New Jersey or New York crane accident, then you may be entitled to damages.
