Determining Damages for Deckhand Injuries

Deckhands, like other maritime workers, face not only physical pain but also potential financial ruin after a maritime injury.  While maritime employers may not be eager to pay deckhands the damages that they deserve after maritime accidents, our New Jersey and New  York maritime accident lawyers aggressively advocate for the full amount of damages allowable under the law for each and every injured deckhand whom we represent.

Many deckhands are entitled to the protections of the Jones Act because they meet the definition of seamen.  Our New Jersey and New York Jones Act lawyers will review the causes of the accident and the injuries and zealously advocate for the injured seaman’s recovery of:
  • Maintenance and Cure: the Jones Act entitles injured deckhands to recover maintenance costs for the food and board costs they incur while off their vessel and cure costs for medical care up to their maximum medical cure.
  • Lost Wages: if the deckhand loses time from work immediately after the accident or in the future, then we will fight for recovery of lost wages.
  • Damages Related to the Injury: compensation for disfigurement, pain and suffering and in some cases loss of enjoyment of life may be recoverable.

If you are an injured deckhand, please contact an experienced New York and New Jersey Jones Act attorney today at 1-800-3-MAY-DAY or via our online contact form for more information about your potential recovery.
