How do Diesel Exhaust Fumes Harm Railroad Workers?

According to the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), the major components of diesel exhaust include dangerous substances such as carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, nitric oxide, and sulfur dioxide.  Other minor yet dangerous components are also present and place New York and New Jersey railroad workers at risk of serious respiratory injuries, cancers, and other illnesses.

OSHA suggests that proper training of engine operators, maintenance of diesel engines, and precautions can help reduce the dangers for railroad workers.

Unfortunately, railroads don’t always take the necessary steps to protect their workers, and tragic consequences can result from repeated exposure to these dangerous fumes.  If you are a New York or New Jersey railroad worker who has suffered an occupational illness because of diesel exhaust, or if you are the survivor of a railroad worker who has died because of diesel exhaust, you may be entitled to damages.

Please contact a New Jersey injury lawyer for more information about your specific case.  The New York and New Jersey railroad attorneys of Hofmann & Schweitzer would be happy to answer your questions and help you with your recovery.  Please contact us at 1-800-362-9329 or via our online contact form for more information.
