How to Prevent and Recover From Maritime Hanging Staging Falls

Maritime workers who work on suspended platforms, such as maritime hanging staging often share one common goal: Do Not Fall. A fall from such an elevation can result in a serious injury or death.

Falls May Be Preventable

Whether your work includes time on maritime hanging staging, you have been injured in a fall, or you have lost a loved one in a fall, it is important to understand that there are certain safe work practices that might prevent a fall and the resulting injuries.

In addition to the proper installation, maintenance and inspection of maritime hanging staging, OSHA specifically recommends that maritime employers implement the following to prevent falls:

  • General precautions
  • Standard guardrails, when appropriate
  • Precautions when using wire rope guardrails
  • Precautions for blasting or coating operations
  • Precautions for materials handling

These precautions can prevent catastrophic maritime accidents and the pain and loss that follow.
