New York Construction Unions Agree to 20% Wage Roll Back on Major Project

New York Construction Unions Agree to 20% Wage Roll Back on Major Project

In a sign of the hard financial times, key building trade unions agreed to a 20% wage cut in order to help to keep the Manhattan West Side building project to be built by union labor. The pressure on unions from non-union contractors has been building in the City, and although union labor is more efficient and qualified, contracts that are awarded to the lowest bidder, often non-union contractors, is forcing unionized labor to scale back their demands. The project involved is between West 44th and West 45th Streets between 10th and 11th Avenues, being built by developer Gotham Organization.
