Tappan Zee Bridge Reconstruction Slated To Begin Next Year

The New York Post reported that The Tappan Zee Bridges makeover could start as soon as next year in light of President Obama, in his push to help with job creation to help the economy, has "fast-tracked" the project. We applaud this wholeheartedly. The multi-year project will create tens of thousands of jobs and improve safety on the Hudson River span that connects Westchester and Rockland counties on Interstates 87 and 287.

We are concerned about the cost, however. New York officials peg the cost of the Tappan Zee work, possibly the biggest job-creating infrastructure project in the nation, at $5 billion to $6 billion. Rebuilding our state's infrastructure will create jobs, help this region remain vital and help propel us into the 22nd Century when, who knows, we may not have cars!
