A: As of November 8, 2010, OSHA regulations require that a qualified signal person be working when crane or derrick work is being done and the point of operation is not in full view of the operator, the operator’s view is obstructed or the operator deems it necessary.
When a signal person is required for crane or derrick work, that person must be qualified. Specifically, the signal operator must have passed both an oral or written test and a practical test demonstrating his or her knowledge and competency using signals. A person may be deemed qualified by a third party evaluator or by the construction employer’s qualified evaluator.
If you have been hurt because of a signal error or other problem on a construction site, then you may be entitled to damages for your injuries. Additionally, you may be entitled to damages if you’ve lost a loved one in a construction crane accident.
If you’ve suffered from an injury or the loss of a loved one, please contact an experienced New York and New Jersey construction accident attorney at 1-800-362-9329 or via our online contact form for more information.
