4 Men Killed in New York City Subway Accidents Within 24 Hours

New York subway accident lawyers talk about recent deaths.January 21, 2012, was a deadly day on New York City subways. Four people lost their lives in four separate incidents within a 24-hour period. According to the New York Police Department and the MTA, there is no apparent connection between these four deaths.

The four fatal New York subway accidents included the deaths of:

  • A man at the R train station at Elmhurst and Broadway. An agent found an unconscious man at the bottom of the stairwell around 2:00 a.m. They called the police who have told the media that they believe the man fell down the stairs. He was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.
  • A man at the Third Avenue Station on the Brooklyn bound L train tracks. 22-year-old Brian O’Mara, of Garden City, was found dead around 8:25 a.m. While the investigation into Mr. O’Mara’s death is ongoing, police have told the media that they believe he entered the tunnel through an emergency door and was hit by a train.
  • A man at the Nostrand Avenue A train station in Brooklyn. Police report receiving a call from a train operator around 4:00 p.m. The train operator reported a body on the southbound track of the tunnel. Police report that the main appeared to have been hit by several trains before being discovered.
  • A man at the Sixth Avenue L train station. Police responded shortly after 8 p.m. to a report that a man had been hit by a train as he tried to climb to the platform. The train operator said she tried to apply the brakes but couldn’t stop in time to avoid the accident.
