On Tuesday, June 15, 2010, construction workers were working at Paul Teutul Jr.’s new motorcycle shop. Mr. Teutul is one of the stars of TLC’s hit show “American Chopper.” His new shop will be on Stone Castle Road in Montgomery, which is located approximately sixty miles north of New York City.
Shortly after 8:30 a.m. on June 15, a twenty-six-year-old roofer from Beacon, New York was up on the roof and suffered a fatal accident. Reports of the accident indicate that the roofer stepped backward into a hole and fell forty feet to his death. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The man had worked for a Middletown roofing company.
The US Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is investigating the cause of this fatal roofing accident. OSHA arrived on the scene just hours after the roofer’s tragic death. The purpose of the investigation is to determine whether any safety violations occurred that might have led to this man’s untimely death, and to determine how best to protect roofers from similar fates in the future.
We extend our sympathies to the family of this roofer, to his coworkers, and to his friends during this difficult time.
