The Brain Injury Association of America and its New York affiliate, the Brain Injury Association of New York State (BIANYS), have declared March 2011 to be Brain Injury Awareness Month. This year the focus of Brain Injury Awareness Month is to educate the public about the dangers of concussions.
Concussions are serious brain injuries. The BIANYS will continue with its media campaign and special events during the month of March. Additionally, BIANYS is requesting that the public consider learning the facts about traumatic brain injuries and concussions, organize activities and events related to brain injury awareness, and plan and sponsor media campaigns related to concussions and traumatic brain injuries.
Concussions can occur in many different ways. While the specific focus of this year’s awareness campaign is sports related concussions, concussions and more significant traumatic brain injuries can also result from a maritime accident, construction accident, railroad accident, New York slip and fall accident, other premises liability accidents and other personal injury accidents.
For more information about concussions or about how to participate in Brain Injury Awareness Month, please visit the Brain Injury Association of New York’s website at www.bianys.org.
