Posted on Jan 25, 2012

The 44-foot commercial fishing vessel, Mandy Ness, capsized off the coast of New Jersey on Tuesday, January 10, 2012.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, the agency was alerted to the accident around 11:15 p.m. via emergency beacon. The Coast Guard deployed a helicopter and rescue boat and sent out an urgent maritime bulletin to boaters in the area.

The commercial fishing vessel, Francis Anne, was the first to arrive at the scene. The crew of the Francis Anne was able to rescue a crewmember of the Mandy Ness. Coast Guard rescuers dove into the cold waters to attempt to find the second crewmember. The second crewmember was found unresponsive in the capsized vessel. That crewmember was flown to the Atlantic City air station and taken by ambulance to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where he was declared dead. His identity has not been released pending notification of his family.

The cause of this fatal New Jersey commercial fishing accident remains under investigation by the Coast Guard.

Our New Jersey maritime accident lawyers extend our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased crewmember, and we extend our wishes for a fast and complete recovery to the crewmember who was rescued from this maritime accident.
