An elevator accident took the life of a 41-year-old New York City executive last month, according to the New York Times. Suzanne Hart, who worked as Director for New Business and Content for the renowned advertising firm Y&R, was getting on to the elevator in her office building at 285 Madison Avenue on December 14, 2011.
As Ms. Hart was getting on to the elevator around 10 a.m., the elevator reportedly started to go up before the doors closed. Ms. Hart was allegedly caught between the elevator and the wall before the elevator reached the second floor. She died at the scene of this New York City accident.
Two other people were trapped in the elevator and reportedly suffered minor injuries.
The elevator at 285 Madison, a building built in 1926, was last inspected in June 2011 and no safety violations were found. Y&R had announced plans to relocate its offices shortly before this accident. Other tenants of the building also have plans to move.
Ms. Hart is survived by her parents, her boyfriend, relatives, numerous friends and colleagues. Our New York premises liability attorneys express our profound condolences to all of them following this horrible tragedy.
In 2010, three people died in New York City elevator accidents.
