New York Construction Worker Dies in Excavator Accident

Posted on Jul 10, 2011

A central New York construction accident took the life of 47-year-old Kenneth Bush on Monday, June 20, 2011. Mr. Bush was working on the Madison Barracks site in Sackets Harbor to prepare it for a housing development. The construction site is owned by Lawler Realty LLC, and Mr. Bush was employed by Lawman Heating and Cooling's construction division. He was working on clearing the construction site at the time of this fatal New York construction accident.

Witnesses to the accident report that Mr. Bush was operating an excavator shortly before 11:30 a.m. on the morning of June 20, when a 40 foot tree fell on the machine. Mr. Bush was pinned inside the excavator for about 10 minutes before emergency responders could free him by cutting off the excavator's roof with a hydraulic tool.

Mr. Bush was unconscious and unresponsive at the time that he was rescued. He was taken to Samaritan Medical Center in Watertown, New York where he was declared dead. Officials from Sackets Harbor, Henderson, Brownville, Guilfoyle, Jefferson County, and the U.S. Customs and Border Patrol responded to this construction accident. OSHA was on site later in the day.

We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Kenneth Bush following this tragic New York construction fatality.
