New York Construction Worker Dies in Heavy Equipment Accident

Posted on Nov 03, 2010

On Friday, October 22, 2010 46-year-old James J. Mihok, of Binghamton, was working a construction job in Hornell, New York.  Mr. Mihok was installing a conduit along Tobes Hill Road, according to reports.  He was an employee of TKH Northeast Inc, a Vestal based company.

Hornell police and emergency medical responders were called to the scene of a private driveway along Tobes Hill Road around 12:30 p.m. on Friday, October 22.  The police report indicated that Mr. Mihok was operating a vibrating roller at that address as part of his work in installing the conduit.

The police were called to the scene because the vibrating roller went over the edge of the roadway and down a 14 foot embankment where it turned over and landed on top of Mr. Mihok, crushing him and causing his death.  It is not yet clear why the roller went over the embankment or why this accident happened.

Mr. Mihok was taken to St. James Hospital where he was declared dead.  His body was taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of James Mihok after this tragic New York construction accident.
