Princeton Woman Dies Diving Off the Coast of New Jersey

Posted on Aug 10, 2010

On Saturday July 31, 2010, a twenty-eight-year-old Princeton, New Jersey woman died in a maritime accident. The woman, who has been identified as Yasuki Okada, died from injuries sustained while diving off the coast of New Jersey.

Ms. Okada was on a dive excursion on the dive boat Gypsy Blood. The Gypsy Blood is a full-service dive-charter operation whose home port is in Brielle, New Jersey.

Ms. Okada had been making a 122-foot dive in the Atlantic Ocean about fifteen miles east of Shark River, New Jersey. Shortly before 11:30 a.m. on July 31, someone aboard the Gypsy Blood radioed the U.S. Coast Guard to inform them that she had been missing for about thirty-five minutes.

A dive master from the Gypsy Blood found the woman underwater and brought her back to the surface. The Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City flew the woman to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune where she was declared dead.

The Coast Guard is continuing to investigate the cause of this fatal New Jersey maritime accident.

We extend our condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Okada.
