Search Called Off for Commercial Fisherman

Posted on Nov 10, 2010

On October 30, 2010, the commercial fishing vessel Miss Lindsey II was about 46 miles southeast of Gloucester, Massachusetts.  The Miss Lindsey II is an 80-foot trawler with a home port of Boston.

Around 8 a.m. on October 30, the crew of the Miss Lindsey II contacted the Coast Guard to report a man overboard.  The man’s name has not been released, but he is reported to be 42-years-old and single.

The man was working the nets at the time that he fell overboard from the deck of the fishing vessel.  Crewmembers report that he was not wearing a life vest at the time that he fell overboard and that he was a poor swimmer.  The seas were reported to be about six to eight feet at the time that this commercial fisherman fell overboard, and the water temperature was around 50 degrees.

The Coast Guard conducted a search that covered more than 800 nautical miles over the course of about 24 hours.  The Coast Guard’s rescue mission included four boats, two helicopters and a Flacon jet.  The commercial fisherman was not found.

We extend our sympathy to the family of the commercial fishermen, to his friends and to all of the crewmembers of the Miss Lindsey II.
