Tragic NJ Transit Accident Takes the Life of Twenty-one-Year-Old Glen

Posted on Aug 18, 2010

On August 4, 2010, a twenty-one-year-old woman from Glen Rock, New Jersey was killed by a New Jersey Transit train. The woman, Christina Lee, was at the Main Street Station in Ramsey when she went behind the northbound Train 1145 and was hit by southbound Train 52. The accident occurred at about 7:45 a.m., and NJ Transit officials have called it a “tragic accident.”

It is unknown whether Ms. Lee was wearing headphones that prevented her from hearing the warning of the oncoming train. Headphones were found near her on the track.

Authorities report that there have been two other fatalities at the Ramsey Main Street Station in the past ten years. Both occurred when pedestrians were hit by trains.

The mayor of Ramsey indicated that he would be meeting with NJ Transit officials to discuss possible safety improvements at the station that could prevent future tragedies.

In addition to Ms. Lee’s death on August 4, NJ Transit trains collided with and killed pedestrians on August 5 and August 6, 2010. Preliminary investigations indicate that the two subsequent deaths were suicides.

We extend our sympathies to the family of Ms. Lee and to the families of the other pedestrians who recently lost their lives in NJ Transit accidents.
