Two Boys Die From an Accident in the Backyard of a Long Island Home

Posted on Jun 18, 2011

A tragic accident took the life of two teenage boys on Long Island earlier this month. On June 1, 2011, Eduardo Vanegas-Fuentes, 16, Edgar Calderon-Castro, 19, and 16-year-old Samuel Suarez were gathering wood to start a campfire in the backyard of the Farmingville home rented by the Suarez family.

Samuel's older sister reported that while the boys were looking for firewood they found a pebble covered concrete cover to a cesspool which they allegedly mistook for a rock. The boys decided to move the cover and Eduardo allegedly slipped and fell into the cesspool.

Samuel tried to lower a hose for Eduardo to grab, but Eduardo had already lost consciousness. Edgar jumped in to try to save his friend. Samuel ran to the home for help. 911 was called and emergency personnel came out to try to help Eduardo and Edgar after this New York slip and fall accident.

Firefighters from the Farmingville Fire Department got the boys out of the hole and tried to resuscitate them before they were taken to Stony Brook University Medical Center where they both died on Thursday morning June 2, 2011.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Eduardo Vanegas- Fuentes and Edgar Calderon-Castro following this tragic New York accident.
