Three Ways to Prevent Cold Weather Construction Accidents

Construction employers have a responsibility to protect their workers in all types of weather conditions.  We’ve already discussed the dangers of heat related construction illnesses.  Now – when the frost has settled in but the snow has not yet begun to fall – it is time to learn how to protect yourself from the dangers of cold weather construction injuries.

Construction workers who are outside in the northeast winters are exposed to freezing temperatures, ice and snow.  If proper precautions are not taken then a construction worker is at risk for frostbite, musculoskeletal injuries and slip and fall accidents.

Thus, we encourage construction employers to protect construction workers from these dangers by:
  • Providing frequent breaks in warm facilities (such as a motor vehicle or trailer, if a building is unavailable)
  • Encouraging construction workers to increase their food and drink intake to regulate their body temperatures
  • Providing proper clothing that allows them to stay warm in frigid temperatures and safely perform their work

If you are a construction worker who was injured in a cold weather accident, then you may be entitled to damages for your injuries.  Contact an experienced New Jersey and New York construction accident injury attorney at Hofmann & Schweitzer for more information.
