Actor Seriously Injured in Union Square Station Subway Accident

Posted on Jan 03, 2011

A man was in critical condition after a December 10, 2010, accident at Union Square Station in Manhattan.  The man has been identified as 41 year old actor, Michael Dion.  Officials report that Mr. Dion became stuck between the southbound Number 4 Train and the hydraulic platform extender, which bridges the gap between the platform and train.  The gap was estimated to be about 8 inches wide.  It took about 30 minutes before Mr. Dion could be freed.

Witnesses claim that Mr. Dion was yelling in pain during the time it took to free him.  An MTA worker says it took approximately 20 minutes for a contractor to arrive who could release the hydraulics that control the platform extension.  It took the contractor about 10 minutes to perform the work so that Mr. Dion could be rescued by emergency personnel.

Mr. Dion was rushed to Bellevue Hospital.  The exact nature of his injuries has not been released.  Mr. Dion arrived in the hospital in critical condition, but his condition has since been upgraded to serious.  We extend our best wishes for a speedy and complete recovery to Mr. Dion following this Union Square Station subway accident.
