Community Offshore Wind, a joint venture between RWE Renewables and National Grid, has launched its geophysical survey campaign to study seabed conditions within the project lease area and potential export cable corridors in the New York Bight in an area offshore of Ocean County. Previous surveys by other developers have already been performed for the Ocean Wind projectoff south New Jersey and the ... off of Delaware. The data collected will help inform safe and responsible project design and engineering, identifying potential geohazards and obstructions, as well as benthic habitats and archaeological resources. The survey work off Ocean County will be performed by two vessels. It starts this week and will be completed through the summer of 2023. Once developed, ocean windmills in this parcel is expected to support 3 GW of offshore wind generating capacity, enough to power 1 million homes and businesses. The project is expected to be in operation by 2030.
