Understanding 2010 New York Railroad Accident Statistics

Often, New York train accidents that make the news are reported because they result in serious injuries or death.  However, for every accident that makes the news, there are many accidents that go unreported by the media.  Therefore, as a New York railroad lawyer, I believe that it is important to understand the true scope of New York train accident injuries as reported to the Federal Railroad Administration.

In 2010, the FRA reported the following New York railroad accident statistics*:
  • 1,008 injuries
  • 23 fatalities
  • 6 instances of employee occupational illness.  (All 6 people suffered noise induced hearing loss.)
  • 485 injuries or fatalities to on duty railroad employees
  • 204 injuries or fatalities to passengers
  • 237 injuries or fatalities to non-trespassers, and 49 injuries or fatalities to trespassers on railroad property

Contact a New York Railroad Attorney if You’ve Been Injured or if You’ve Lost a Loved One

While these statistics help us understand how common New York train accidents are, statistics alone do not tell us about the suffering of the 1,031 individuals who were hurt or killed or about the effects of those accidents on the victims’ families.

If you have been hurt or if you have lost a loved one in a New York railroad accident, then we encourage you to contact a New York FELA attorney to discuss how the accident affected you and about your potential recovery.  We can be reached at 1-800-362-9329 for more information.
