What to Do After a Train Engine Explodes

As a passenger, a train engine explosion often comes as quite a shock.  One minute you are quietly looking out of the window, napping, or working and the next there is a terrible boom, the train stops, and the smoke starts.  In the best case scenario, conductors or other train personnel will guide you through the aftermath of the accident.  However, it is important to understand what to do in the absence of such assistance.

Move as Far Away From the Train as You Can

It is important to get off the train and move as far away as possible, in case there is a secondary explosion or the fire expands.  Once you are a safe distance, take pictures of the burning train, write down notes about what happened in the train accident, and get the names and addresses of your fellow passengers.

Seek Medical Treatment

As soon as possible, and immediately in a medical emergency, it is important to seek medical care.  Injuries from train engine explosions range from whiplash to fatalities and everything in between.  Even if you were lucky enough not to be injured by the flames of the explosion, you may still have suffered a head injury, spinal cord injury or other serious injury when the train stopped suddenly.
