10-Year-Old Boy Seriously Hurt in New Jersey Playground Accident

Posted on Sep 15, 2010

Over the long Labor Day weekend, a 10-year-old boy was seriously injured while playing at the Grande Woods Trailer Park playground in the Rio Grande section of Middle Township, New Jersey.  Shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2010 the boy was playing basketball when the basketball hoop’s support pole broke causing the hoop to fall on top of the child.

The child has been identified as Vincent Harvey.  Vincent and his family were visiting Middle Township from the greater Philadelphia area.  Reports indicate that he suffered a serious chest injury and facial lacerations.

Rio Grande EMS and AntlantiCare paramedics were the first responders on the scene and transported the child to the National Armory where he was flown by helicopter to Cooper Medical Center in Camden, New Jersey.  Authorities report that he remained in the hospital through the weekend but his condition and prognosis have not been updated to the media.

Stephen Coyle, the park’s owner, was notified and he has since closed the playground and secured the equipment that injured Vincent.

We extend our best wishes for a complete and quick recovery to Vincent Harvey following this unfortunate New Jersey playground accident.
