2 Missing After Boat, Barge Collide in Delaware River

Posted on Jul 08, 2010

In Philadelphia searchers are still looking for two passengers missing from a sight seeing tour boat that sank in the Delaware River. 37 people were aboard the "duck boat" when a K-Sea Transportation Tug pushing a barge struck the lame duck boat which lost power. A 16 year old girl and a 20 year old man are believed to be missing. The missing were members of a Hungarian tour group. The National Transportation Safety Board and the Coast Guard are investigating. Our sympathy goes out to those passengers and crew who suffered in this terrible accident.

When people are passengers on vessels there are many safety rules which must be followed by the operator. Maritime Law protects the rights of passengers. There are often clauses in fine print on your ticket which limits jurisdiction and your rights to a jury trial. There is also sometimes time limits to notify the company that you are going to bring a claim. It is important you consult with an experienced Maritime Lawyer if you plan on bringing a claim against the operator.
