CARPENTERS’ UNION BOSS PLEADS GUILTY TO RACKETEERING SCHEME UNDERMINING UNION EMPLOYMENT

Ex-carpenters union president Michael Forde pleaded guilty to various federal crimes recently, and agreed to serve at least nine years in prison for a racketeering scheme stretching back to 1994, in which he admitted selling out his membership by pocketing bribes to let contractors hire illegal aliens and other non-union workers off the books. Forde further admitted lying under oath during a 2009 deposition in which he denied knowledge of the scheme. He further admitted that he was in the process of recovering from drug and alcohol abuse. He reportedly tested positive for cocaine and marijuana when arrested last year.
