Commercial Fisherman Medically Evacuated from Vessel 20 Miles Off New York Coast

Posted on Aug 03, 2011

The commercial fishing vessel Laura Peggy, from New London, Connecticut, called the Coast Guard for emergency medical assistance on Thursday July 7, 2011. The crew made the call around 4 p.m. while the fishing vessel was at sea, about 20 miles south of Montauk Point, New York.

According to reports of the call, the crew made the emergency call on behalf of a 25-year-old male crewmember who had suffered a severe laceration to his finger. The crewmember was examined by a Coast Guard flight surgeon who determined that the crewmember needed to be immediately transported off the fishing boat for medical attention.

The victim of this commercial fishing accident was then transported to a Coast Guard boat that had been dispatched from Coast Guard Station Montauk and transported to land. Once on shore, emergency medical personnel met the boat and took the victim to Southampton Hospital for treatment.

No further details have yet been released about how the crewmember cut his finger, the crewmember's identity, or the crewmember's prognosis following this maritime commercial fishing hand injury. Our New York Jones Act lawyers wish the injured crewmember a fast and complete recovery from his injury.
