Lightning Strike Kills One and Injures Two New Jersey Construction Workers

Posted on Oct 01, 2011

One construction worker was killed, and two construction workers were injured while working on the Revel Casino site on Thursday, September 15, 2011. The three man construction crew was working on a fifth floor roof deck using concrete to fill in the space that had once held external elevators. The Revel Casino is a 53 level project set to open in May 2012 in the Inlet Section of Atlantic City, New Jersey.

At approximately 3:30 p.m., one of the workers had his hand on the cement pourer when lightning struck the basket of the machine. The worker, who has not yet been identified to the media, was unconscious when emergency workers arrived and was pronounced dead at the hospital.

The other two men were injured but were expected to be released from the hospital the same day that the accident occurred.

Revel Entertainment, local union groups and others have declined to comment on this fatal New Jersey construction accident.

Local law enforcement and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are conducting investigations into the cause of death and injuries.

We express our sincere condolences to the family of the construction worker who was killed, and we extend our best wishes for a fast and complete recovery to the workers who were injured in this New Jersey construction accident.
