New Jersey Train Crashes Into Station Injuring Dozens

Posted on May 24, 2011

On Sunday afternoon May 7, 2011, a serious New Jersey train accident occurred at a Hoboken train station. At least 34 people were injured in the crash.

The accident, which remains under investigation, happened at around 8:30 a.m. on Track 2. The train allegedly struck a rubberized barrier instead of stopping as planned on the tracks.

Early reports of what happened are coming from passengers who were on the train at the time of accident. According to one passenger, the train did not slow down as it entered the station. Another passenger reports that passengers were waiting to get off the train and were thrown around when the train collided with the barrier. It was reportedly about 4 minutes before the train doors opened after the crash.

The injured were taken to area hospitals. Many of those with minor injuries were treated at Hoboken University Medical Center. Those with more serious injuries were taken to Jersey City Medical Center, and a few of the injured were treated at Christ Hospital in Jersey City.

While the investigation is ongoing and will likely take some time, one official has said that driver error might be the cause of the crash.

We extend our best wishes for a full and quick recovery to everyone injured this New Jersey railroad crash.
