New York Construction Accident Claims Life of 45-Year-Old Worker

Posted on Apr 23, 2011

A New York construction worker was involved in a fatal accident on April 11, 2011. The accident occurred on the construction site of a Monroe County Water Authority's water treatment plant in Western New York. Specifically, the site is located near the intersection of Lake and Basket Roads in Webster.

According to reports, the construction worker fell off a locomotive while working underground at the water treatment plant site and was run over by the vehicle. The construction worker has been identified as 45-year-old Thomas Means of Walworth, New York.

Mr. Means was part of a five person crew that was digging through the rock 16 stories below ground and under Lake Ontario to create a new tunnel. The new tunnel will allow the Monroe County Water Authority to add new customers, particularly those who still rely on well water or aging systems.

Work on the project was temporarily suspended while the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) completed its investigation of this fatal New York construction accident.

We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Thomas Means following this tragic accident.
