NJ Transit Train Collides with Car and Claims a Life

82-year-old Gilda Diguilma, of Wall, New Jersey, was killed in a railroad accident in Belmar, New Jersey last month. The crash occurred around 11:15 a.m. on Sunday November 13, 2011 at the 8th Avenue rail crossing.

According to reports of the accident, Ms. Diguilma’s car and a southbound NJ Transit commuter train collided. Ms. Diguilma was the only person in her vehicle, and she was declared dead at the scene of the accident.

NJ Transit reports that no one on board the train was injured in the collision. The train has been identified as Number 4729 on NJ Transit’s North Jersey Coast Line. It was headed for Bay Town, and passengers were put on buses for the remainder of their journey.

The cause of this fatal New Jersey train accident is currently unknown and remains under investigation by NJ Transit. In the early hours of the investigation, NJ Transit refused to speculate on why or how Ms. Diguilma’s vehicle ended up in the path of the train. A stretch of the road near the railroad crossing was closed down for a thorough investigation.
