Oyster Vessel Capsizes With Two Crewmembers on Board

Posted on Mar 24, 2011

On Tuesday, March 8, 2011 a fishing vessel, Harvest Time, capsized in Pamlico Sound. This maritime accident happened around 6 p.m. with two crewmembers on board. The crew was reported missing at approximately 6:30 p.m. when the vessel did not show up in port as expected.

One crewmember, 23-year-old Matt Jamerson, was rescued by the fishing vessel Island Girl at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, 2011. Mr. Jamerson was found sitting on the capsized vessel. He was flown to Carolina East Medical Center and is reported to be in good condition.

His crewmember, 22-year-old William Foster is still listed as missing. Mr. Jamerson reported that Mr. Foster dove under the boat in search of life jackets and did not resurface. The Coast Guard searched under the vessel and throughout the area by boat and air until late afternoon on Wednesday, March 9, when the search was suspended. Mr. Foster's family was deciding whether or not to continue with the search after the Coast Guard's search was suspended.

We extend our best wishes to Mr. Jamerson for a fast and complete recovery and our thoughts remain with Mr. Foster's family and friends during this very difficult time.
