Two Injured in Brooklyn Construction Accident

Posted on Jul 26, 2011

On Tuesday June 21, 2011, two people were injured in a New York construction accident at Atlantic Yards. The Atlantic Yards project is one of the biggest construction projects in Brooklyn history. On June 21, a drill accident on the eastern end of the project sent chunks of packed dirt and small stones falling over surprised pedestrians at the corner of Atlantic and Vanderbilt Avenues.

The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. when a hydraulic drill allegedly malfunctioned sending what witnesses describe as a storm of packed dirt and stones onto the street. Two people were injured in the accident. One was treated at the scene of the New York construction accident and the other was taken to a local hospital with a head injury. Several other people suffered property damage from the impact of the dirt and stones on their vehicles.

A spokesperson for Empire State Development Corporation has said that the drill became clogged, and while construction workers were attempting to unclog the drill the pressure built up and caused the accident. The contractor was ordered to stop work and submit a safety plan before continuing.

We express our best wishes for a full and complete recovery to everyone injured in this New York construction accident.
