You may not have been living a life of luxury and ease, but you were comfortable enough. You had steady work in the construction industry and you could pay your bills, provide for your family, and have a little money left over to enjoy. At least that was the case until the day you were injured on your Riverhead, Oyster Bay, or other Long Island construction site. Since that fateful day, you have been unable to return to work and it is getting harder to pay your bills with each passing week.

What Are You Going to Do Now?

You have two options. You can sit back and do nothing and the most likely result of this option will be that you suffer significant financial damages. You may incur credit card debt, you may have to lower you standard living, and you may lose your home.

Alternatively, you can take action to protect yourself financially now and in the future. You can:

  • Make sure that your medical expenses are paid. You should not have to incur additional expenses for your medical care.
  • Recover at least a percentage of your lost income while you are out of work. How much you will be entitled to will depend on a variety of factors.
  • Know who is responsible for paying your damages. In some cases you may be paid through the New York Workers’ Compensation System and in other cases you may need to file a personal injury lawsuit.

In these ways, you can pay your bills and protect yourself.
