The National Insurance Crime Bureau has announced that it will be cracking down on fraudulent slip and fall insurance claims. On August 24, 2010, the National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) issued a press release indicating that it will be scrutinizing slip and fall cases for fraud more closely in the future. Joe Wehrle, the president and chief executive officer of the NICB says that while many people have legitimate claims, many others do not.

Fraudulent slip and falls in New York City ranked in the top five cities in the country with this problem. New York state slip and falls were among the top five states in the country with this problem, which was later proven false.
